Zen and the Art of Reiki
Reiki is a powerful and transformational system of healing, which historically has its roots in India, Tibet and more recently in Japan.
The Reiki practitioner focuses on the chakras or vital energy centers to restore balance and equilibrium to all systems of the body.
Zen is a simple and practical approach to life’s problems that aims to release all the negative attitudes and emotions that impede personal development and inhibit growth. Through the practice of Zen the individual is able to release themselves from the inhibitions and hindrances that act as obstacles to progress in life, work and personal relationships. This enables the individual to discover a shift towards a more authentic, creative self.
The combination of Zen and Reiki acts as a powerful facilitator to self healing that complements the work of the healer practitioner. It encourages the body’s natural capacity to restore balance and equilibrium and empowers the client to take personal responsibility for their healing.
Origins of Reiki
Reiki is based on an ancient system of healing whose origins can be traced back to the Sanskrit Sutra texts of India, over 2,500 years ago.
This gentle healing art is a system of channelling universal life force energy for healing. In different cultures, this energy has been called;
Chi - by the Chinese.
Prana - by the Hindus.
Mana - by the Kahunas.
Ki - by the Japanese.traced
For over two thousand years, adepts of the Sanskrit Yoga teachings have possessed a deep understanding of the nature of spirit, energy and matter. They have used this knowledge for dynamic healing and spiritual development.
Dr Mikao Usui, a Japanese monk who lived in the late 19th Century, rediscovered this ancient system of healing in the 2,500 year old Sanskrit Sutras, and brought it to the lay people of Japan.
Through his development of the Reiki healing method outside of India, and his transmission by attunements to lay medical practitioners in Japan, Reiki was eventually brought to America and to Europe in the latter part of the 20th Century.
